Secure Offsite Data Storage and Backup


Overview

Capital Data Systems offers a secure, offsite filesystem housed in physically and environmentally secure data centers that can be accessed with open, standards-based tools.


Customers may choose from a standard offsite filesystem, wherein their data is backed up to the primary location of their choice, or a geo-redundant filesystem wherein their data is replicated to one or more of our global locations, in addition to the primary location they have chosen.


Currently, Capital Data Systems operates in three locations: San Diego, CA; Denver, CO; Switzerland. Future expansion will include India, the United Kingdom, and the Pacific rim.


The Filesystem

Your filesystem is a normal unix filesystem, and will preserve ownership, access times, and other attributes of your files.


Your filesystem can be accessed with any platform (Windows/Mac/Unix) over ftp, ssh or WebDAV using open, standards-based tools (rsync, scp, WinSCP, sftp, Unison, rdiff-backup, duplicity). These tools can be used with your filesystem just as they could with any other local or remote unix filesystem that you already use.


There are NO arbitrary restrictions on your use of these tools to manipulate your filesystem. You may feel free to utilize or combine or rewrite these access methods in any way you see fit.
